EMC Pre-Compliance Emissions Test System |PC-114 an ideal solution performing pre-compliance EMC testing from 9 kHz - 1 GHz. The system includes a spectrum analyzer, antennas, near field probes, a preamplifier, LISN and a non-conductive antenna tripod. Pre-compliance testing in EMC is a commonly used term not easy to define, it implies testing done prior to formal testing for legal compliance. Formal legal compliance is performed at a facility designed and equipped with test instrumentation EMC standards. Such facilities and instrumentations are capital intensive. Compliance testing is performed per exacting requirements of Standards and other reference documents to test methods. The test facilities may require an accreditation body such as NVLAP, A2LA. Pre-compliance testing is useful for specifications such as FCC, Part 15, EN 55022, EN 55011, CISPR 22 and CISPR11.

Pre-compliance testing advantages

Open Area Test Site (OATS) | Pre-compliance testing Most commercial test standards required testing on an Open Area Test Site (OATS), but ambients are becoming noisier, especially due to urban expansion and density of transmitters. Appropriate sites for OATS suffering from very high levels of ambient noise have become problematic. However, pre-compliance testing can achieve results close to compliance testing.

Measurement uncertainty is an accepted concept for EMC compliance testing and is required by most test standards. Calibration data for all the equipment, cables, and antennas, and normalized site attenuation (NSA) data could be used to determine the measurement uncertainty. Pre-compliance data is compared to the compliance data, the uncertainty is verified.
